The Opportunity Rover imaged a flower and hasn't sent any quality images since!
You can see the color images (lots of green), put together from the raw images provided by JPL in the usual fashion. . .there is no tampering at all and this can be easily verified by going to the rover site and combining the raw images yourself.
There are plenty of "air bag" images in the press releases, but not one of them is shown in color. . . that's because the color composites clearly show a lot of green. Put the images together for yourself and see!
Color Reference: Red (650nm) Green (510nm) Blue (440-475nm)
The raw image file name shows which filter was used with a letter/number combination at the end of the file name. For example, L2 means "Left Pancam, 750nm filter." R means "Right Pancam" and all the filters on that side are not useful for color imaging as they are all infrared.
Below is a list of the left pancam filters for reference on which images to combine into the red/green/blue channels to produce an accurate color image.
L2 - 750nm
L3 - 670nm
L4 - 600nm
L5 - 530nm
L6 - 480nm
L7 - 430nm
